Balek Tajor is a businessman like any other; sellling information, faulty power relays and high yield explosives to the highest bidder. He is also a man whose reputation is plagued by two conflicting stories, neither of which are true.

The assignment patches place Cartwright and Seymour with working for Starfleet Security, as seen in Season Four episode of STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE 'Affliction'.
Translated from Bajoran, Tajor's first line is: "A**hole. Leave me alone. I did nothing!"
This story references the events of NEEDS OF THE MANY, in which a starship was disabled by a subspace mine. It is revealed that 87 people were killed in that incident.
Cartwright hands Tajor a disarmed tricobalt explosive, which is referenced in STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE episode 'Mindfield' as the contents within a Romulan mine.
The 'Rigelians' are an often mentioned but hardly seen species in STAR TREK. In this story, Raggedy Girl refers to them as 'overlords' to where she lives at Galdor Provence and Tajor says he once sold faulty power relay that was installed on their flagship.
Rigel V, where Tajor is said to have saved refugees, is the fifth planet of the Rigel star system, another often referenced area of space in STAR TREK.
The marketplace featured in the opening of this story was intended to be Rigel X, as seen in the pilot episode of STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE 'Broken Bow'.
